To be fair, it only took about a year but the taxi was in Michigan. It’s a long story but, in short, I used the guide’s taxidermist because we didn’t really have a way to transport it home that didn’t involve splitting the horns. Then, when the quarantine hit, the taxidermist transport company shut down. It then took another 5 months to get transportation arranged and get him down here.
It turned out well, but a number of choices heavily influenced by bourbon kind of stretched out the timeline.
The Leoncita is truly one of those remote special places. 100k acres of everything from flat desert to high mountain country. You can ride forever out there! Aoudad everywhere and a tremendous amount of mule deer. Hunter with Desert Safaris has a jam up operation.
It was pure magic to me. We walked to the top, and saw some jaw dropping country. Hunter’s outfit is absolutely second to none.
The OP’s taxi was our guide, and he’s the real deal at both jobs.
Monster bull congrats. I have 2 West Texas Desert Mule Deer hanging on my wall from the Leoncita Ranch, Hunter runs a first class operation with Robert and Bobby. Beautiful Ranch with many awesome animals I highly recommend.
