What’s this buck eating???

Any idea what this buck picked up and put in his mouth??
These are from a trail cam we have in Kansas. I zoomed in to show as best I could so the quality is poor.

Hickory nut, walnut, large pecan with the hull still on it.

I had a doe eating a couple of pecans like that opening weekend. Sounds like a human biting into a crunchy apple when she ate it.

This is what I would say, but being that I'm almost pure Texan, I'm not sure what is available forage in Kansas.

Those of you who say abscessed tooth are fooled by the photo distortion. Once that gray egg looking thing is in the bucks month, the side of his mouth will be larger.

If you look under his eye in the 1st picture you can see the swelling the same as in the 2nd pic.

Almost looks like Lump Jaw. I hope I am wrong because if not treated it is almost always fatal
