We've had a daddy-daughter Thanksgiving hunt tradition going for a few years now and this year it was my oldests turn to be behind the rifle. We've made a couple of trips to the shooting range and she was dialed in with her .243. I didn't even take a rifle or bow for me on the trip and told her it was going to be up to her to put some wild game in the freezer (no pressure right ). With so many acorns on the ground it was tough deer hunting but she had fun helping with varmint control. On the Saturday evening hunt it came together. A couple of good does popped out of a sendero at 90ish yards and started following the hand corn trail I had laid out. They were facing us the whole time so we had to wait and watch for about 15-20 minutes until one of them turned broadside. Longest wait ever!!! She made the perfect shot and it only went about 5 yards. Hugs and high fives followed and then a Facetime call to mom to share the good news. It was Bella's first deer but also her 9th birthday! I showed her how to fill out the tag, took some pics and headed to camp to show off her first deer harvest. Bella helped with getting her quartered and into the cooler. After dinner and birthday cake, she was wiped out from a long weekend of hunting Zzzzz. It was a great weekend packed full of great memories that I hope she'll never forget. I know I won't! Best hunting weekend ever ....Thanks for reading.
