Question—do I count it if one gets caught but runs off with the trap and stake?
Ouch, that is pricey!
One of my kills from this past weekend was an odd one. I always trip my traps when I leave, but somehow I missed one of them. I caught a coon on Monday night (Covert verified). He was alive all the way up until the next weekend when I returned. I couldn’t believe it. He didn’t raise his head when I walked into the pen, but when I put a 22 bullet in his skull he raised all kinds of fuss. I put two more into him, again these are head shots at close range. I undid the other three traps and he rolled over and looked at me when I walked up to him. I put another round in him from my .380. Amazed at his resiliency!
So no, I wouldn’t count one that ran off with my trap. You may get him again though so keep trying.
I think I finally caught the big one, or maybe a different large one hanging around. Anyway, it had both front feet in the Dukes ... anyone else ever had that happen?
