    New Orleans - Help

Headed to NO for the first time in two weeks. Looking for restaurant recommendations in the French Quarter to visit.

I have researched on TripAdvisor, but want first hand experience from the brotherhood.

Open to any type of cuisine, but really wanting to avoid the tourist traps if at all possible.

Gato negro at the far end of decatur street.
St Charles tavern on St. Charles, open 24 hours. Cops eat there so your less likely to get shot.
Vodoo bbq for the best greens in the city on st charles
For high end I'd choose Kingfish or one of the Brennan restaurants.

Deanie's is decent seafood wthout pretentious atmosphere.

I second the Dragos rec. Excellent charbroiled oysters. First I ever tried.

Enjoy yourself but understand the quarter is full of pickpockets and thieves, watch out after dark and never walk alone.

And if someone bets you $10 they can tell you where you got your shoes, the answer is "on your feet"

I was there a couple years ago and local referred me to Oceana Grill. It is right off of Bourbon St. Had to wait for a short time in line to get in, but it was definitely worth the wait and prices were reasonable.

I've been many times. Love it every time. Best people watching ever.

I've eaten just about everywhere, but my favorite is Mr. Ed’s just off Bourbon on Bienville.

Brigsten’s was the best food we had while there, we ate at quite a few restaurants. The Upper Line was also really good, and Peche was solid also, but it’s trying to be trendy.

IMO, the Quarter is more for tourists so prices are higher and food isn’t as good as other areas.
