I've never even thought about using Sprite on a fish?

That being said, I have also never used any kind of binder for fish frying, just seasoned cornmeal and straight into hot grease.

But now that you've got me thinking about it, i might try some of the ideas in this thread. I like the idea of the hot sauce!

Ever try sout cream as a binder? My wife uses it on chicken but I haven’t tried it on fish.

It’s real good on fish too. I do it every now and then as a change up.

I go with the blue Louisiana bag and ice water. Never fails, always good

Good grief! Putting all that stuff on Crappie fillets is like puttin' ketchup on prime ribeyes!! There ain't a better tasting freshwater fish on the planet than White Perch! Last thing I'd do is try to "cover" the flavor of the fish!

I actually learned to use creole mustard on my Sac-a-lait from some of my coon*** friends. If you haven't tried you should, I also do it to spec's. I have never heard of sprite, I would think the acid would make it mealy.

I soak sandbass in milk over night. I dont know why i did it one time. But everyone said it was the best fish they ever had so i just kept doing it.

                    Crappie i just leave alone.

Sandbass and catfish get a mustard wash for a bit before battering. Removes the stronger fish taste, ans the bloody/muddy taste.

Crappie, nothing but corn meal, or zatarans.

why is there a need to soak Crappie in anything? I just batter and fry (spicy Cajun)... it's fish after all

                          agreed!

Also, for sand-bass, if you move the red meat the smell gets reduced a lot.

This is the most Unchristian post I have read all day. It's like taking the Lord's fish in vain. Slap that joker in batter (of your choice) and fry away. Leave the mustard for Sammiches, Non-Crappie Sammiches.

If you learn to clean most fish correctly, they are not muddy tasting, greasy, or have a blood line. A very good sharp knife can usually shave the bad stuff off and out of the good meat. I have never used Sprite but I have used mustard, milk and egg wash, cornmeal, and even onion ring batter. I am going to try the instant potato flakes soon.
