Following. Did you make that roller yourself or purchase it? Does it work well as a cultipacker?

I did not make it. Im 35, and that thing has been around this ranch longer than I have. My grandad bought it from a farm that was going out of business a long time ago. It was actually part of a set. There are lugs on the back side to hook up the other rollers.

Although I have never used a cultipacker, I have used it like a cultipacker, and gotten a good stand. The main thing is you are compacting the soild to get good seed to soild contact.

That roller is very nice and for all intents and purposes is a cultipacker. I have one that looks just like yours only the "V's" are slightly deeper. Very nice.

How are the beets growing? Are they eating them yet?

You can see a few of those Beets in that picture. THe deer dont really start hitting this plot until its starts getting cold. They just dont really want to jump the fence if they dont have to.

Now, my new plot on the other side of the property is not fenced off, and they keep it mowed down. I have intentions of fencing it off next year after season ends, so that I dont have to trap my cows out of this pasture. Im going to put up an exclusion cage this weekend so that I can how it should be growing. Maybe I'll take some pics too.

The boys & I moved a camera to the new plot. The clover is really coming on, but they are keeping the oats ate down

Cool! Thanks for the info. I figure using one of those culverts to piece together a roller would be a lot cheaper than buying a brand new cultipacker.

Thats crazy how your oats are doing better in the shade and how sometimes the shade can help growth other times its a bad thing.

We had 5" of rain last week. The creek kinda crept in on one side. Beautiful morning!
