I’ve been hunting our family farm in East TX going on 30yrs. I had never filled my buck tag on opening weekend of rifle season until the last 2 opening mornings I’ve hunted here. I made it 3 in a row this morning. All 3 have came from the same spot, which is a story in itself. I only started hunting this spot because it was close to the house and when I was recovering from a car wreck I couldn’t walk very far. Plus it was set up for me by my late grandfather the year before he passed, so it’s pretty special.
I saw this deer a couple weeks ago bow hunting but not in range. Made a move of the popup blind to hopefully increase the odds of getting him in bow range. With a north wind this morning I went to the blind, but took my 6.5 PRC instead of the bow. Ended up shooting him at 40yds anyways. He has been running hard lately because he’s dropped a good amount of body weight already.
