Sounds like you need to buy him 2 rods I don't think that you can cover both types of fishing with one rod.

I don't even consider Waterloo custom anymore. Mass produced, can be bought at Academy.

Waterloo sells rods made in China to the box stores but their custom rods made in Victoria are just as good as ever.

Silly question to ask on here. You'll get a ton of different answers as you would if you asked who makes the best bow lol.

Waterloo, Sarge, Laguna those are the names and they all make quality rods.

Don't rule out Waterloo just because all these Houston boys say their local place. Waterloo is #1 on the coastal bend. Great product and great customer service.

I fished for Waterloo for a while. Those guys make great rods in Victoria. I still have a bunch. That being said, the Sarge rods are the lightest, best quality i have ever fished with. Rod weight makes a big difference when you are casting all day.
