About 11 years ago a bunch of guys I served with in Naples Italy with got together for our 1st annual reunion. One of my close friends, not sure I can call him that as well don't keep in touch much, was there.
We stayed up one night talking and catching up on life.
I found out he had a Daughter and she was the apple of his eye. Unfortunately mom and him didn't get along so he didn't get to see her much while he was homeless.
    I was shocked at!
I knew he was adopted and some of his struggles around that.
Anyways he studied Psychology in college to understand people better.
On https://samplius.com/free-essay-examples/psychology/, I read psychology essays several times to get a better understanding of what's going on.
He is the one who told me what I shared in my initial post.
I chose then to change the way I reply.

I was just wondering if anyone else ever thought about it.

I told him that I'll never change my phone number. You need me call me we'll figure it out together.

Last I heard he was in the Army and was the Base CO's Driver.

Matter of fact I'm going to text him see where he is tonight.
Thank you very much for sharing this story and your invaluable experience.

I like a man who is not above a little existential thinking!

I suspect the reference to “hearing” about news, good or bad, is a holdover from the days when most news we heard about was conveyed personally or by word of mouth. In other words, long before the proliferation of electronic media in the digital age.

      I’m just speculating, though.

I’m sorry to hear that you have random thoughts. Actually I’m sorry to acknowledge that I have random thoughts…. I think.

Well look at it this way you must have made it into the cool crowd on TBH to get over 50 replies to something so ********. If I would have posted the same thing it would be on the bottom of page 2 already.

Actually, PB, I have pondered the fact that we say we are sorry to “hear” that when we, in fact, did not HEAR it. We READ it on here. Therefore, I will occasionally say that I am sorry to “LEARN” that (bad news).

Thanks for keeping us mentally stimulated!
