This is because your adrenal hormones (cortisol, DHEA, adrenaline, aldosterone) are out of whack, which typically means some of your other hormones are out of whack as well. Is it possible your testosterone levels are declining? Do you have any other symptoms of endocrine or metabolic disfunction such as: weight gain (esp. upper body--neck, face--with thinning arms, legs), muscle weakness and fatigue, increased anxiety (fight or flight kind), GI distress or discomfort? Have any of the values in your blood or metabolic panels changed, i.e. blood pressure, cholesterol (both HDL and LDL), hemo A1c?

If you can answer yes to many of the above, my advice is to find a person who specializes in Functional Medicine and make an appointment. I think you need a hormone test first and foremost.

I have the same problem. Your cortisol are supposed to rise sharply in the morning, stay fairly high during the day, and begin to decline at approx 8:00. p.m. I had my adrenal hormones tested and it showed my cortisol levels were higher at 8:00 pm and midnight before starting to decline just after 4:00 a.m. Exactly the opposite of what they're supposed to do.

If this is your problem, as I suspect it may be, this is why the medications and supplements you've been taking either 1) don't work for long or 2) don't work at all.

Good luck. I feel for you. If you decide to consider a functional medicine specialist, let me know how I can help.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a medical professional, just a person who's live a long time, seen a lot of things, and (according to her husband) thinks she's right about everything.

Since I started using medical cannabis I don’t have problems sleeping. Usually fall to sleep within five minutes of hitting the pillow. A full eight hours of sleep is what I expect.

If you don’t have to take any wiz quizzes it is good/safe natural option.

Cut the caffeine after 2:00 pm. Or 8 hours before sleep time.
Exercise helps on so many levels (stress, depression, anxiety, sleep) it is also the hardest to make yourself do.
Don’t eat close or within a few hours of bedtime
Try and stay off phone/ipad for hour before bed (very hard for me)
CBD oil drops under the tongue about 15 minutes before bed really helped me fall asleep faster. And I think helped with pain/stress which was a great added bonus. Get a very good reputable brand, it’s worth it.

Med Marijuana can work wonders. Too bad so many are so ignorant about the subject.

I’ve used a lot of the above methods with mixed results. When nothing seems to work and I’m laying there med and frustrated I’ll pray about it and read the Bible next thing I know I’m asleep. And in those rare occasions it doesn’t work well it was time well spent.

I agree but so many people can’t because of jobs and drug testing. It should be legalized and making certain levels ok for normal life functions. The real stuff works well for so many things.... Don’t get me started... My family members that have had cancer and chemo have made me a firm believer in what the power of MJ in all forms can do!

I have been prescribed Ambien, I have taken zzquil, Nyquil, Melatonin... everything. I'm tired at work get home... If I go to sleep at 6:30pm I wake up in an hour or 2 every time and cant go back to sleep. If I go to sleep at 9-10 ill be up at midnight. I wont get sleep for 8 days and then I'll have a day off work, finally pass out and its like my body is OUT. I'll sleep 15 hours.

Xanax works, ambien works well but if I must be in bed right after taking it.

I am 52 and dealt with this my whole life. I would talk to your Dr and get them to refer you to a sleep specialist. For years I self medicated with alcohol, please do not fall into that trap. I was taking 10 zquil pills right after work, then at 8pm my 3 prescription sleep meds-Ambien, Xanax and 1 other I cant remember, then 9 pm I would take a 1/4 to 1/2 bottle zquil and it was a crap shoot if I was going to sleep. With no meds i would be up 3-4 days straight, then crash hard one night and repeat. It was horrible being tired, irritable etc. When I went to my sleep Dr they told me to stop the zquil and wanted me to step off the prescription meds. He told me I was going to go to sleep and quit breathing if i kept up what i was doing. I have been working on different meds to see what will work. I am having very good luck with Mirtazapin. I actually sleep and feel good which is huge compared to what i was doing. They suggest using white noise, which works. I also get off the computer/phone/TV about an hour before bed. I cut all stimulants such as coffee, cokes etc. He went through all my meds and removed all stimulants. I cant stress enough how much a sleep specialist has helped. None of the over counter stuff worked

I try to avoid the medicated approach. Better diet and consistent hard workouts keep me tired enough to get good rest the vast majority of the time. Occasionally in times of high stress I'll have a night where I just can't sleep and I may resort to low dose of Melatonin but most of the time I just suffer through and go without sleep.

Dont get on the computer, Iphone or laptop after 8:00 pm, doing so stimulates and wakes your brain into work and awake mode. Whatever you do, dont look at your phone during the night - leave your phone in the kitchen or elsewhere. Use an old-fashioned alarm clock for time and alarm (which you probably dont need).

Not sure ignorant is correct, last time I checked, it is still illegal in Texas. Although it may be a solution for some willing to take the risk, it is not a legal solution for those wanting to be law abiding Texas residents.

I have no answers for you. Im going on 20 years working 12hr swing shift. My routine is 3-4 hours of sleep each day / night then on the 3rd or 4th one I will pass out. Wife and kids have learned to avoid me after I work off because I am irritable and have a hair trigger.

Yes it is and there’s many more forms than just smoking it and being a pot head. You sir are the very definition of “ignorance and miss understanding” that he speaks of.... It works wonders in cancer patients, anxiety disorders, blood pressure and many many other medical issues. The stigma of marijuana has folks like you judging even the conversation of its true all natural benefits. I was the same as you until several friends and family (my mom and uncle in particular) got cancer and the only this that relieve their pains and helped them regain their appetite due to chemo therapy is when I realized there’s a upside and true benefit to MJ or cannabis oils. Calm down and do a little research. It’s has to be controlled and prescribed but it has tremendous benefits in certain medical situations. It works and can be a game changer if limited legality could happen[emoji1303]
