I think I got the sheds of that buck. I think I recognize exactly where he is in those pics to.

It seems to be the case. Definitely spending more time in the stand this year and getting up earlier

This is me on most hunts, unless the wind shifts.

Some pretty nice bucks. Some of those are flat impressive.

I listened to a podcast where a guy was discussing how successful he is hunting new moons. Granted the guy hunts in Ohio, but what correlation with evening buck movement during a new moon, much less on public land, have any of you seen? I’ve always had good luck hunting the day after a full moon. Whether or not that was just by chance I’m not sure.

I haven’t seen much correlation with phase of moon and movement. The only exception is bright moons overnight on clear nights. You can have a full moon, but it rises and sets in the daytime, and it might as well be a new moon.

I prefer, on lower pressured ground, to base it off of moon overhead and underfoot. But, to me, the moon is so far down the list on what gets them up. First is historic pressure (the buck’s lifetime), then recent pressure, then security cover availability, then rut phase, then local weather patterns, then the moon.

That’s just my opinion, though, and it is worth exactly as much as you paid for it [emoji1787]

Haha well put. To be fair I’d say that guys stance on the moon is probably worth the same if not less. I will say I was always told a full moon overnight would result in poor hunting the next day but I find the opposite to be true. I’ve heard a lot about underfoot/overhead conditions but I haven’t had as much confirmation with that as I have with full moon phases. Haven’t narrowed it down that far yet. I also subscribe to pressure from people and weather for the majority of my decision making as far as increasing odds.

I don't have any monsters, but decent enough for me to go look for them. I went out today and jumped up a couple but lost them in the tall grass. Hopefully after christmas I will get one.

Anyone done any inventory cams yet? I’m planning on running some cams tomorrow hopefully to see what all made it through last season.
