Smart move waiting on the dog. They're much better equipped for this than we are. Buddy shot one just a little low and back on a quartering away shot opening weekend. Tracked the trail about 100 yds thinking it was a good hit before realizing we were going to need help. Blood on arrow was good, not lung bright, but not liver dark. Turns out he clipped liver and got one lung on the way out. Dog covered 7.5 miles that night tracking him (about a 2.5 mile straight line), and bayed him up alive. Tracker dispatched. We would never have found him alone.
You made the right move, 138 yards is my guess.
