Thanks for posting this thread OP. As others said this is educational for many following. One of the top threads this season so far.

Deer is dead, less than 100 yds. Ready to see the LDP's of this joker.....

              I think he'll go mid 140's.

Smart move waiting on the dog. They're much better equipped for this than we are. Buddy shot one just a little low and back on a quartering away shot opening weekend. Tracked the trail about 100 yds thinking it was a good hit before realizing we were going to need help. Blood on arrow was good, not lung bright, but not liver dark. Turns out he clipped liver and got one lung on the way out. Dog covered 7.5 miles that night tracking him (about a 2.5 mile straight line), and bayed him up alive. Tracker dispatched. We would never have found him alone.

You made the right move, 138 yards is my guess.

Has the dog guy showed up yet?
If not, that's not cool to tell the OP that he'd be there at 8.

                        My guess is 50 yards+/-.

Good luck! Gut shot with a big mechanical should be an easy track for those dogs.

Both true since I've yet to make a sit. And yes, watching any working dog is good stuff but it's amazing to see a good dog work a scent trail.

To the OP, best of luck. You've gone quite so I'm guessing your on the trail now.
