Good luck finding him. If it's good red blood and you clipped liver he'll bleed out in 6-8 hours, believe it or not the meat will still be find in the morning although the guts will stink so maybe skip the tenders. If it's a true gut shot the meat will be even more safe as it'll take him even longer to die. I'm sure the dog will find him piled up less than 100 yards from the shot, you did good backing out.

Good idea getting the dogs! First thing in the morning and know where the closest water source is. They will try and head that direction and bed down.

You should find him easily. If he took a while to expire the meat may still be good in the morning. If it passes the smell test it should be OK.
