I have a Winchester model 94 30-30 that I saved up for and my mom purchased for me when I was 13. Hopefully one day it will be handed to my grandson ( my son is only 5 now). I inherited my grandad's bolt action 410. It's not worth much but it's priceless to me.

I shot my first deer when I was 7 years old on a lease we were on in Brackettville. I shot it with one of my dad's best friend's .243 Mannlicher. I remember thinking back then how cool and pretty of a gun it was. When I got older I asked if I could buy it from him on the off chance that I one day have kids. He had a son of his own who now has a son of his own so he had to decline. I still fully intend on buying a .243 Mannlicher one of these days to have as a generational type gun.

I've always been a huge Ruger No 1 fan. And I really like the 7mm08 for it's versatility and that it is something young shooters can handle. So probably that with an exceptional wood stock.

            Sako Deluxe
            Weatherby Mark V Deluxe
            Browning Bar
            Browning limited edition Xbolt
            Winchester 70 Super Grade

Anyone of these would make excellent gifts to pass down.

The Rifle will not matter. The caliber will not matter. What will matter is that it came from you and that you thought enough of them to give it to them. I have an old remington single shot 22 that was my grandpas. To me it is worth more than any weapon regardless of brand and caliber.

                  A Henry most likely.

Exactly the rifle I have passed down to my kids and now grandkids. Over 100 bucks taken with that rifle.

I’m really liking the Ruger No 1 in a short action caliber for this plan.

Something that has Savage stamped on the barrel
Cheap, accurate and will take a beating.
                          7mm-08 or .308

I have 2 sako 85’s (6.5x55 and 308) and and a browning high wall in 270 that should do the trick. Need a few more kids or my son will be overloaded. I always have a soft spot for nice walnut when I want to consider a classic. Other option I have is to pass down my savage 99 that was my grandpas made in the 20’s for a real classic.
