Oceana and Acme Oyster House are good. The Lucky Dog hot dog carts can be a life saver at 2 a.m.

Dino's is awesome. They serve potatoes instead of bread before meal. Shrimp/ Crawfish boil potatoes. Then you get a huge amount of fantastic food. Restaurant is pretty cool itself.

My favorite by far was coop's place. Hole in the wall place with amazing food. Not much to this place but it is awesome. Pretty cheap price for a place in French Quarter. Rabbit Jambalaya was great. http://www.coopsplace.net/

Like any other major city. Stay away from dark alleys. Don't travel alone at night. Keep you wallet in a front pocket. Don't carry a lot of cash and don't flash it around. I never felt uneasy during New Years celebration last year.

Voodoo shops are pretty cool. Check out some of the old cemeteries. Holocaust museum is top notch as well.

Lots of guys trying to sell you things. Ignore and keep walking.

                Gumbo Shop for Gumbo
Steins Deli for a good sammich and an awesome beer selection out back.
Avenue Pub, upstairs section, for a very good whiskey/bourbon/scotch selection and down stairs for a good beer selection.
Cafe du Monde, avoid at peak hours. We usually hit it at night. No wait, breakfast time, looong wait.
Not a fan of Pat O'brien's. $23 for a hurricane, tasted like crap, but you can return the glass for $2. I went, once, just to tick it off the list.

Maspero’s the oldest restaurant in the country, they also have a cafe near the french market ( the best muffuletta and French onion soup you will ever put in your mouth) Deanies has BBQ shrimp and crab au’gratin and over by the old navy base (not the quarter I know) best fried seafood

Deanies is great and right off of Bourbon. Mulates has a great Cajun atmosphere with a cajun band at night - the food is just ok though. Cafe DuMonde is a must stop for breakfast or dessert - beignets and a cup of cafe au lait .

If you like sushi, check out Rockin' Saki.... sit at the bar and do your best not to drool in your food at the bartenders.
