My experience (for what it's worth, and experiance): Surgery or not, healing a shoulder injury takes time. Usually 3 months minimum with PT. Sometimes up to 6 months pending several variables and the person. Just PT will help get the shoulder stabilized in some cases. As a destabilized shoulder can lead to pain, loss of motion, further injury, and more. Stabilization is gained through PT and strength training of the shoulder joint via certain exercises and techniques through your therapist. And some therapist won't want you doing anything with the shoulder for at least 2-3 months, other than their PT, to prevent further injury.

I had surgery 20 years ago. I am lucky cause I can still shoot 50+ pounds on trad bows and 70 pounds on compounds. I had to walk not run when it came to conditioning to shoot bows again.

Been fighting left shoulder pain since April of last year. Went to a specialist in May of 19 and cortisone shots and in home PT. Did that, felt good for a while. By fall of 2019 the pain was creeping back. After fishing all spring, pain is back fully and then some. I have two positions that I can lay and not be in pain. Sleeping is not coming easy. I don't know if I want to get the cortisone again and I dang sure don't want surgery. I never really got a solid diagnosis. They did x-rays and twisted around on it for about 2 minutes then shot the cortisone in.

Had basically the same conversation (and Cortisone shot) on Wed. The difference was, my doc wanted all kinds of info on archery and bow hunting. He said, "man, that sounds so cool!! I wanna do that!"

To me, this does not sound good. Have not talked to the Ortho surgeon yet, but I want this fixed and not a long drawn out "maybe in a few months it will heal on it's own",

I have a new place and with 6.46 acres and needing to keep it mowed and to clean up around 3 structures and my pond, I cannot afford to be out of commission for an extended period waiting on something that may or may not heal on it's own. Am i wrong in my thinking for you that have been down this road?
Find you an experianced shoulder surgeon and take him the test results. I dislocated my shoulder and was told I had multiple tears that might heal with 6 months of PT but that there was no guarantee. I was also told surgery would fix it for sure or had a 99% chance of fixing it.

Surgeon told me, that with most people my age ( mid 40s ) he normally recommended PT over surgery unless they had a very active life style. I told him to sharpen his knife as I didn't want to be out a year ( 6 months PT just to have surgery and another 6 months of recovery if PT alone failed). Shoulder is better than ever after completing post surgery PT.

Best of luck with what ever route you go to fix the shoulder. Recliners help with the sleeping issue and you will certainly need one if you get surgery.

Did the nerve transmission test this afternoon. Found out I have severe Carpal Tunnel in my left wrist that will probably require surgery PLUS an MRI on the 21st to determine my options after viewing the results of the MRI! I told the Doc I wanted this fixed and not have to wait 4 to 6 months to see if PT would fix the tears, but I will get the MRI and visit with a couple of surgeons and see what they say.
