Yes, trout are on the beach front. The earlier the better for them, but you rarely get fishable days early. April/May is when you catch the big girls in the surf.

We had a north wind this morning. Should have had the surf knocked down this morning and very fishable. When I lived in Brazoria county it was lights out in May when we had a north wind and flat surf. Daylight top waters could be on fire.

Back when Sabine had salt water, a buddy of mine hooked into the big old sow trout. Shark got it about an inch behind the gills. What was left weighed 4 lbs.

I do not like sharks and I no longer wade fish the surf cause of them. Had a 6 plus footer right on top of me one time that intimidated the crap out of me. I cut loose my stringer full of trout and got the heck out of the water to never return again. Op - Catch that slight north wind and go tear em up.

I had a shark grab some trout on a stringer, when I was fishing on the back side of Mustang Island, around Fish Pass. That got my attention. I thought a buddy was messing with me, yanking on the stringer. But he was on the other side of me, so it was not him. We got up on a sand bar as quick as possible. We lost two trout before getting out of waist deep water.

I have wade fished a lot since then, I still worry more about sting rays than sharks. But farther up the coast around Port Lavaca, I would worry more about sharks than I do down around Red Fish Bay, Aransas Bay, Copano Bay, Nueces Bay and Corpus Christi bay areas.

I have seen numerous sharks while fishing in the surf, and while swimming in the surf, on both Mustang Island and North Padre.
