Precise reason why many companies have moved to a PTO model as compared to having separate vacation and sick days.
I've worked at companies under both models and honestly, if a Company offers sick days, there will always be employees that use all of them each year. I prefer the PTO model. People can be more honest about wanting time off and it actually benefits employees that don't call in sick all the time.
I made the decision to switch from vacation/sick to total PTO to do away with petty drama from Karens that worry about other people's business. Now I just have to let folks know when their paycheck will be short because they burned all their time and didn't keep some for actual sickness.
I've always used mine for hunting with my bosses knowledge up until this year. Now they are requiring doctors notes stating we are good to return to work to get paid for the pto time. I guess this year i'll be using them on friday mornings.
