    My grandpa hated burning cedar for that reason but he’d throw a log or two in for my grandmother because she liked the way it smelled. I can still hear him ********!

        I'm almost 100% sure that's not elm. Elm does not split that well and the bark doesn't look right. It does look like the water oak I've been burning, but I'm by no means an expert. Lol

            log on the right is oak grains, the bark looks like oak blight. Good burners

              Pin oak. Won’t be as much heat, but burns clean. Won’t make many coals.

                Persimmon is the worst popping wood I ever burned

                    Ash is my favorite wood to burn in the fireplace followed closely by black jack oak.

                          That is what we burned growing up in Missouri never heard anybody in Texas call it hedge. It burns very hot but also pops a lot.
