There’s more around Texas than you’d think. This is from Temple.

Yep, they are cool little critters but they will clean the fish out of a tank in a hurry.

We used to trap them on purpose in Texarkana, were getting around $130 apiece, then they went down to $30 and we quit trying.

We did catch one in a coon trap set at a corn feeder about 200 yards from a creek, but more often caught them in conibears.

Had a beaver issue in my pond at my house & set conibears. Caught 1 beaver just before the big freeze. Caught 3 otters after the freeze. 2 in 1 day. Hadn’t even seen any since I shot at one in late 2019. Jokers were as big as my daughter’s 42 lb. basset hound.

Quite a number of them in the San Gabriel river watershed East of IH35, amd Granger Lake. They come up to check out my kayak all the time.

We see them all the time off the Trinity near Moss Hill.
Quite a few out at Lake Somerville too.

Cool creatures, but make sure there’s no way I would let them stick around with any ponds near. They can clean one out in a jiffy.

A few years ago, we came across a dead otter on the shoreline on our place on Toledo Bend. I was with a guy who killed one in SHNF about 15 years ago
