I have an older Canon Rebel XT. The Tamron 75-300 that came with the package is actually a decent lens.
No where near the quality of Casey's pics but you can get nice shots at 100 yds with it.

Lots of better areas if you have the PP, but it looks doable to me.
BLM roads will be rough 2 tracks and some get downright un drive able with wet weather.
