I got it figured out. I had to bleed the cooling system. Raised the front end up off the ground with a jack and let it run a while with the radiator cap off. Back to running like new now.

It should be fine to cook with. The chemical moved to the root, which is what killed it. The rate of chemical used and what gets into the plant is minimal and then broken down from there.
