What length to cut a barrel?

I have a run of the mill Savage Axis II in a 308. Standard, 22” barrel.

Thinking of cutting it down and having it threaded.

Is 18” acceptable for total length? I’m not going to be shooting any...

Made a quick pit stop by Lowe’s. Bought a 2 pack...

Made a quick pit stop by Lowe’s. Bought a 2 pack of 3/8 nylon washers. I simply trimmed the outside of 1 to fit, and the mag works perfectly now, torqued at 35”#. Snaps in and out as it should now....
