2019 Hagerman Segment C

Since Seg A and B are in the books, I'll go ahead and start the Segment C thread. I've been following along for the first two hunts and counting down the days until I can get there for my Segment C hunt. I'm coming up from the San Antonio area and my FIL who is also hunting is coming up from the Corpus area. We doubled up on P&Y bucks last year on public land and excited to try our luck for the first time hunting the H. Will be in a Grey Ford F-150 FX4 with the bone collector logo on the back window. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Chad C 11-18-2019 09:43 AM

Woodsman in! Finally drew after my 4th year applying!

Will be watching the weather forecast starting in about 10 days. Several have used this local weather station for current Refuge temp & wind conditions in the past. Site is currently down, hopefully will be up and running again soon: http://weather.austincollege.edu/index.html#

I anyone willing to Rent a bike to me that will hook to a cart for the C Segment? I have a cart already. Will be traveling from Kilgore Wednesday the 4th.

KevinD 11-18-2019 08:36 PM

I’ll be hunting C and looking forward to it! First time hunting the H. I’ve been following the threads and read some from 18. Congrats to those lucky enough to harvest and hats off to those that put the work in and things didn’t pan out. I’m guessing we have to bring the animals in gutted to weigh? Be nice to pack out quarters if back in a ways but I suppose that’s not an option?

ColtBerry 11-25-2019 11:30 PM

Happy to say I'll see you fellas there. I didn't manage to get a buck last year, but I did get lucky enough to harvest a doe on the 3rd morning. Its a cool hunt to participate in no doubt. I look forward to meeting some of you! I'm a Grayson county native, and as chances have it, I live about 10 mins from the refuge. That being said, should any of you need any info as far as local resources go, Ill be happy to help how I can. Ill be driving a 2018 white F250

Had a good day of last minute scouting Wednesday. Saw 1 possible shooter, 1 yearling basket, and 3 unknown. A few crappy iPhone pics to set the bar really low for us C Teamers...

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5dc3716c18.jpg

Also, if anyone here found a mature buck’s bedding area (several rubs and 3 beds on a little knoll overlooking the bottom, see pic below; and steaming poop to boot!:)) and marked it nearby with pink flagging tape, please PM me, I would like to avoid setting up on top of each other, or otherwise I’ll adjust my game plan. Could be from a previous segment I suppose.

Also, I found deer hair and a quasi fresh deer scapula near my planned setup. I didn’t walk around and look for additional remains, but A & B guys holler at me if you didn’t recover your buck, I will keep my eyes peeled if I hunt that area. I will say this is not in the immediate vicinity of where Kurt lost his buck.

1 week out! Weather forecast is suggesting not terribly cold, but not terribly warm, either.

Did a little last minute scouting today. Didn’t see many deer, but definitely a lot of hogs. I wish the weather was going to be a little cooler this next week.

Instinct 12-02-2019 04:59 PM

Good Luck Fellas and Felletes! I don't have a bike so I'll be humping in the set up on my back. Be patient with me .LOL. I know this hunt will be extremely exhausting, but that will make a kill so much more rewarding.
