This is why we can't have nice things...

New fence, didn't even make it a full week until one of the neighbors Pecan limbs fell on it.

There's 5 other trees just like it to the left along the fence line... and no, the neighbor didn't pitch in a dime for his "half" or help me remove a single twig or existing chain link to clear the fence line.

and guess who got to remove this? :(

Curious if I can compel him to trim his branches back so they don't over hang my property? My electric service line in particular.

Sue for damages. Looks like about $5.37 so far. I was under the impression you could trim any limbs that hung over the property line.

sailor 06-10-2019 02:22 PM

Anything, hanging over the property line.....
Cut it off..….

Plus labor - In today's world the total comes to $3,005.37 :D

IowaHunter 06-10-2019 02:28 PM

Cut at will.

BTLowry 06-10-2019 02:30 PM

Looks like some of the base of that tree is on your side of the line

Piece of solid copper wire inserted into a hole slightly larger than said wire will kill the whole tree I have been told

bownutone 06-10-2019 02:34 PM

Do the trees make pecans and do any of them fall in your yard?
I would probably not make to much of a fuss about it.

No, that tree is actually in my yard... the other 6 are on his side.

Lived here 20 years and can't recall ever seeing a pecan from them. I usually wouldn't make a fuss, but for the fact that I just shelled out good money for this fence.

Never heard of this...do you have send voltage through the copper wire?

cj7zrcool 06-10-2019 03:58 PM

If I set up a GoFundMe page for you and 20 of us pledge .30, you'll have enough to replace said damaged fence component. You donate the 2:46 minutes of labor...TADA! :D

Looks like the bottom of that one tree is in his yard by the look of the bottom of your fence.

Nope

Something about copper that trees don't like

If you put copper sulfate in your drain lines it will kill any roots that get in. If you use too much it will kill the trees.

Never tried it but hear it works

Thumper 06-10-2019 08:47 PM

So a limb fell off a tree in your yard and the neighbor has 6 more on his side but its some how your neighbors fault your fence was damaged, ?????.

:D

Cantcatch5 06-10-2019 08:58 PM

Looks like you built a solid fence!

The upside is the new Pickett will fit right in. If it had happened next year after the fence sun bleached you would be able to see the repair.

Pedernal 06-10-2019 09:00 PM

Well if you aren't getting pecans, maybe you get some good shade from the neighbor's trees?

Do the trees get the bag worms every summer?? And who gets to spray the trees??

easeup 06-10-2019 09:13 PM

want some cheese?

kae006 06-10-2019 09:38 PM

In your first post you say itís the neighborís pecan limb then later you say the tree is in your yard. Which is it?

Thumper 06-10-2019 10:10 PM

Pecan limbs are brittle, with five trees you've got a never ending supply. I'd get a bundle of extra pickets and set them up where they weather the same as the fence pickets you already put up. Just saying....:)

Pecan trees will be self pruning and this will be an on going problem.

Ok, you're whining about 1 fence pickets getting broken from a limb that fell DURING A STORM, an "Act of God". Those trees provide A LOT of value to your neighbor and YOU. Factor in the aesthetic beauty, the Energy Savings from shade and keeping your back yard cooler, the nut production, etc....and you should be thanking your neighbor. It looks like most of the limb/debris is on his side anyway.

Whining about a .37 cent piece of fence wood,, that will need to be replaced in 3 yrs. due to shoddy work,, is hard also.

Sympathy you were looking for just ainít happening.

Sorry for your bad luck.

brrdnk 06-11-2019 09:31 AM

On the bright side you got some great wood for the smoker.

The struggle is real. YOU'RE GONNA GET THROUGH THIS!;)b

JeffK 06-11-2019 10:14 AM

Should be an easy fix.

You want him to trim the limbs back but you have a tree on the fence line.

Voodoo 06-11-2019 10:16 AM

Tree damage plus fence, claim it on homeowners. Saw it on another thread how you can get big bucks for damage to trees on homeowners. :)
