In 2019 we started planning a Cape Buffalo hunt for 2020. Covid put a dampener on that plan and then a torn rotator cuff did the same thing in 2021.
Things were finally set in motion for June of 2022. We arrived in camp on June 2 and got everything lined up to chase the Black Death.
Day 1 and 2 were long, sitting over a well used water hole with only a few buffalo sighted while driving out on day 2.
Day 3 was insane, we got on a big group of Bulls early and chased them on foot all day, walking over 8 miles ( according to my I-phone) getting within 60 yards on 2 different occasions but no clear shot on a big mature, hard bossed Bull.
Day 4 we moved to a new property and found a very well used water hole that offered the ability to brush a pop-up blind in about 30 yards away. At 1530 hours, our PH saw a group of cows with a giant Bull making its way to the water.
It couldn’t have been scripted any better.
37 yards, slightly quartering away, leg kicked forward and my arrow found the top of the heart. A short 75 yard track thru the bush and I had accomplished a life long dream of killing a Cape Buffalo with my bow.
The best part, is my best friend who happens to be my wife, was able to be a part of every second of this adventure!
Enjoy!
