Yup....

Me and the GF were out there this past weekend. Bucks are starting to drop their antlers, but we didn't find any sheds. Our main purpose was to kill some pigs, but we didn't even see a hog. I've got them on camera, plenty of them. I checked the cameras and found this cat pic.

It was bone dry out there. Hopefully this storm front will put some moisture on the ground.

LOVE that cat!

It was really dry at our place but I was amazed at the amount of green grass on the ground. Deer still have a TON to eat on our place. Should be a heck of a start to new antlers with as healthy as the deer we saw and have on camera looked.

Yeah, I was surprised how much green stuff was growing and the Mountain Laurel was starting to bloom along with some barrel cactus and other flowers. The deer were starting to change over to their summer coats and they look a little ragged, but they're still healthy.

I didn't see any big bucks last year. I'm not sure if the cats had them scared off or what. I'm really hoping for a better year this year.

Hey guys, I have an opportunity to start hunting a section of land on the Cedar Creek Ranch. Looking for any advise for hunting this area as I have never hunted out west before. What type of stands? Do the deer come to feeders? Peak rut?

Thanks.

TXBRASS 03-29-2019 05:47 PM

Anyone going out this weekend?

SabreKiller 04-01-2019 11:13 AM

I wish I could have gone. Too much stuff going on for the next month at least.

TXBRASS 05-24-2019 03:21 PM

Anyone been out lately? We were out about 3 weeks ago and it is greener that I've ever seen it. This should be the year for antlers hands down...... Just hope it dries up soon enough to get them to love the feeders. Surprisingly they are still hammering the protein as well.

SabreKiller 05-28-2019 09:59 AM

I was supposed to go out the weekend of June 22nd, but I may not make it out then. I went to pick up my Mule from Alamo Cycle Plex this past weekend, got it home and drove it. It still makes that clunking sound/noise and now its even worse. I put it back on the trailer and drove straight back to SA. I'm pretty sure it won't be fixed in time to go the 22nd. It just ****** me off.

TXBRASS 06-03-2019 05:37 PM

Rainfall app shows we got 6/10th's more rain last night. This is gonna be a great year for antlers...

TXBRASS 06-03-2019 06:02 PM

They have been hitting the protein from the new timed release feeder:

SabreKiller 06-04-2019 09:33 AM

I’m hoping to make it out the weekend of the 22nd.

Texas Kidd 06-04-2019 12:16 PM

I won't be able to make a trip out there until July 19th. You guys got any new pics of interesting stuff out there?

TXBRASS 06-10-2019 12:01 PM

Another 1.5" of rain in the last week and more in the forecast....

SabreKiller 06-10-2019 12:12 PM

One of our members went out to feed two weeks ago. Said everything was green and the grass was higher than he's ever seen it. We HAD a pretty good size tree in front of the camp house. It wither got struck by lightning or wind broke it about 3 feet off the ground.

They've had a lot of rain over there and several large washes we had are even larger now. Last years flood made the creek bed at least 20 feet wider in one spot and washed out our crossing point at another creek bed. Another member may have to take his skid steer out to fix some of those spots.

I'm going to try and make it out the weekend of the 22nd. I haven't been since the end of February an my trigger finger is killing me. I've got 3 cameras I need to check on as well.

texan4ut 06-10-2019 03:49 PM

I am gpoing to try and go out there on the 19th and come home on the 23rd

Texas Kidd 07-22-2019 11:52 AM

Just got back from Dryden. We filled feeders, cleaned our senderos, and started to set up for bow season. It is hot out there y'all. Make sure you stay hydrated when you're out working. Also, bees are out and about looking for water, so make sure you don't leave any open containers with liquids at camp. We made that mistake on Saturday and when we came back for lunch to camp, it was swarming with bees.

SabreKiller 07-23-2019 09:51 AM

Headed out....

this Friday and coming back Sunday. I'm hauling 30 bags of corn (half my required 60), my mule and a load of firewood for the camp house. It's gonna be a hot one, but hopefully I can get over to the next door lease and go to the Pecos River. I'm feeding and checking cameras and hopefully we can get on a few hogs. The guys that fed at the last of May saw some big ones, but were only there to feed.

texan4ut 07-23-2019 02:01 PM

Going to try and get out to Dryden myself this weekend. Not supposed to be too hot. Might be some rain too.

It looks like it will be about 5 degrees cooler. That means it will only be 108 at the camp house instead of the 113 I saw last year in June.

TXBRASS 07-29-2019 06:00 PM

We went out last Monday. Have never seen so much grass and green growth in Terrell County and on our place. Deer have a ton to eat naturally. Protein consumption is slow, but still steady. Didn't retrieve my cam this trip, but bro had some good pics show up of potential hit-listers. We wont get too excited until we go back and check the cams in September. Should be a great year for antlers for sure....

texan4ut 09-06-2019 01:16 PM

I made it out to my lease near Dryden. Dry out that way. There is a new AT&T cell tower up and I got great AT&T service. Bad new seems to have effected the Verizon signal. I could get my Coverts to eventually get a signal and they would send a few pictures then nothing. They had been working fine. Same way with my Verizon phone. I am going back pretty shortly so I will take my Covert AT&T camera and see how it does. Had about a 6 foot long snake skin in the RV and another one hanging out the floor a/c vent. Non venomous type. I guess they wintered up in there. Will moth balls keep em out? Saw a few deer but mostly quiet out there.

TXBRASS 09-11-2019 04:15 PM

Anyone been out lately? We are heading there next Sunday to fill and check cameras. Anxious to see if the new cell tower reaches the ranch, but not holding my breath.

Any game cam pics yall want to share???

Went out Labor Day weekend and set up cams at 13 of 17 stands. Checked one cam after a day and had a nice 9. Going back up October 3rd and will have more pics and maybe something on the ground Looks like we got rain last couple days. Let us know how it looks. Donít know why the pic is sideways.

TXBRASS 09-11-2019 05:03 PM

Good looking buck!

I'm planning on heading out the last weekend of the month. I'm anxious to hear your report about that cell tower as well.

Hey guys just joined tbh because of this thread. Iíve been lurking around the forum for years, just never thought I had much to contribute. Me and a couple of partners own 1360 acres south of Dryden near the river. Weíve been feeding corn year round since 2002. Hunting has been tough since the drought, and we havenít killed but one deer in the last five years. Just got back from there last week, north of Dryden had some rain the evening before and there was some puddles in the rd. South of Dryden was extremely dry. Iíll post some pictures if I get some good ones.

That AT&T tower is a blessing. We get signal at camp now!

Where exactly is the tower? I'm anxious to get out there and see what kind of signal I get. We hunt about 25 miles north of Pumpville, so I'm not sure how much good it will do us.

Ok, we're about 20 miles east of 349 off Old Pumpville Road. That Tower should help us, but not sure how much at this point. The other closest tower was around Sheffield/I-10 area and I was lucky to get 2 bars of service on top of the mountain.
