Not really. I handle most of that by just going farther than most other guys are willing to go. Itís public, so you are bound to run into someone some time. Just ease on to another spot. I always try to have a plan B, plan C, plan D...

Ditto. Be willin to go farther and further.

I agree with the other guys. If you stumble upon a spot someone else is hunting, walk by or back out to another area. Having plan B, C, D etc. is always a good idea. Nobody should give you crap for it either; it happens.

There are infinite amounts of water holes at LBJ and would be pretty hard to pinpoint where this one is but if someone can find it and kill one, awesome! I just want to see pics posted when killed!

Awesome pics buddy.

I'm going to pull cards this weekend and maybe relocate to a waterhole nearby.

Is it bad that every time I say "pull cards" I think in my head...
"If my camera is still there..."

I always worry about that, but I havenít had a camera stolen in 4 years. I donít put them anywhere near travel paths/trails... and I run them really high, and camouflage them well.

I went out for a little bit and placed some cameras. Started to rain pretty good around 1PM. Lots of good sign.

I stopped posting pics of deer from LBJ a long time ago. I learned my lesson. have 4 cams out there this year. Been watching a very nice deer out there for the past 2 years, hoping he'd make. He did, and put on a very decent amount of growth.

Gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Was out scouting yesterday. Some of the areas were blocked and the boundary signs removed. Wasn't sure if some areas had been removed or access had changed. We didnt scout those areas. It sure messed up our backup plans.

What units?
I know they are prepping several units for fall burns.

Shooter buck number two in the area I intend to hunt. #1 was spotted on the hoof, not trail cam pictures yet. I find it odd that buck #1 was in full velvet 2 weeks ago and this guy doesn't even have velvet tatters on his antlers. Anyway...

Nice buck!

Burned area will be a deer magnet once the tender greenery starts coming up due to all the rain. Hunting the edges might pay off if accessible.

Anyone have a list of the areas that are being burned?

Blood Trail 09-13-2018 05:30 PM

Just got back from scouting. Jumped a sounder of pigs. Saw a different group an hour later. Rooting and hog rubs everywhere. First time in all these years Iíve been going that Iíve seen pigs. Saw quite a few deer. Found two nice sheds: a 6 and 12 point (if the other sides match).

The burned areas looked, well, burnt.

I went out this afternoon and checked cameras and did a little more scouting. It's the last time I'll be out before the opener. There was a new big 8 pointer on camera twice. I got the crab claw buck in a different spot, had a big hog come through twice and got a bunch of turkeys on camera (I left that card in the field). I haven't ever seen turkeys at the grasslands before, so that was pretty cool. I noticed that the deer movement has changed significantly since July/Aug.

Wishing everyone luck and blessing this season!

Why did you not shoot the pigs? What unit were they in? I need some breakfast sausage. We plan on going up today and scouting a few new ones. Do alittle dove hunting while we are walking around maybe

Pleasure finally joining the conversation, as this will be my first year doing some more committed hunting out on LBJ. Itís been a tricky place to scout and find consistent signs of larger deer. Donít know how some of you guys are finding these giant public land bucks, but I hope yíall can create some success from all that hard work. Iíve been seeing some activity on my cams out there but nothing too exciting.

troy_w_7 09-16-2018 01:32 PM

Those are sweet sheds! I really like the one with the funky kicker off G2.

Agreed! Getting em on camera is one thing; killing them is another!

He didn't shoot thew pig because it is a picture from a trail camera. He wasn't there when it came by. Also He probably isn't going to broadcast what unit his cameras are in. Maybe better luck via PM.

I do not think we were quoting troys pics. I believe we were both responding to Blood Trail about his scouting adventure when he jumped up some pigs and then saw another group after that But thanks for clarification.

Dude. you are loaded. My expectations are high!

jnd1959 09-19-2018 07:11 PM

Checked cameras and scouted. Found a few bedding spots but no recent rubs. No pics on the camera I checked. Surprised as I was checking for people not deer. Didn't see any new foot traffic either. We may be there by ourselves. Or hunters will just show up on opening day and invade. Spooked one buck out of his bed. Not a biggun. Put up another camera to see if he comes through. None of my oaks look like they will have acorns this year. Makes sense. Last year was a bumper crop.

Kdurham 09-19-2018 07:13 PM

I didnít scout this season. Theyíll be out there

Went out and did some scouting couple days ago. Scared up some does. Saw some recent hog activity but not much else. Pretty quiet.

Turnkey 09-21-2018 03:37 PM

I put a few miles in yesterday around little Cottonwood lake. Saw a doe with two fawns on the way in and jumped a buck when we first started out.

Didn't see anything else the rest of the morning. Not a even a dove flying.

I have noticed that, with our low deer densities, a lot of deer bed in visual based bedding. About the only time I jump good deer is on ďjust offĒ winds for the direction I am traveling. Dan Infalt talks about this for hunting bedding areas, and I have become a believer based on my personal experiences with it as well.
