Official 2020 - 2021 Lakes Whitney and Aquilla hunting and fishing thread

Well, it's an honor to start this seasons OLWAHFT! First, I hope this year will result in a safe and productive outdoor season for all. I've enjoyed the past year's comments. Particularly how everyone has conducted themselves. You are to be commended. It's time now to get your permits and, if you haven't already, start your scouting! It's my prayer that we are all granted the health and time to enjoy what we have and to appreciate the little things. Look out for one another online as well as on site. There's deers in them there woods.

Now, it's my understanding that along with the honor of starting this year's thread, everyone is supposed to pm me one of their best hunting or fishing spots. Duck and striper are top of my list! I'll be waiting...

God speed to all.

J

Spoiled_TN_boy 08-22-2020 05:19 PM

Oh me first!
Favorite hunting spot, but it's best when everyone is sleeping.

I hope to get out there quite a bit. Currently live in Austin but willing to drive if we don't get drawn on any public lands.

Can’t believe, IT IS TIME!!!

bucktracker 08-22-2020 10:00 PM

where's da pepper?😜

Razorback01 08-22-2020 10:08 PM

Nice start JND, but if I were to PM my spots- you would have to rely on the grocery store for meat, unless you are willing to dump 50 lbs of corn on a spot every other day. Hand corn, doesn't mean a full bag.

Good luck to all! I may be down at the W pending draws.

yarddog254 08-23-2020 10:41 AM

Good Luck everyone.

Texas Grown 08-23-2020 02:28 PM

Thank you sir, for starting the new thread! And great intro too! As for spots, PM inbound with info jnd! :)

Texas Grown 08-23-2020 02:54 PM

Ah, the heck with it. I'll just go ahead and share with everbody.

The places in dark blue on both maps are good spots for fishing. The lighter blue places on the first map are sometimes good too. On the first map, the places in yeller on land are good. And on the second map, places in light blue/gray are good on land.

TG, I just deduced that you are full of something. Everyone knows that neither for those are good for anything. Folks, don't go by his maps, it's BS. I'll post some in a few years!

Again JND, nice start.

jnd1959 08-24-2020 02:56 PM

So fish the yellow area and hunt the blue area. Got it.

popeandyoung151 08-24-2020 03:21 PM

Great intro! I hope to put a big one down this year. I’ve got me a water sled this year so I am fully mobile. Some big deer are out there to be had but is not an easy hunt. Good luck to everyone!

Uh.....think I've seen you post this before? And where'd ya get 27 years? That's way outdated and short of my experiences there. Maybe your BNL hacked into someone else's puter and sold you some bad info? [emoji12][emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23]

First timer

Grateful to be a part of this thread and for the opportunity to hunt Whitney and Aquilla this year. I hunted TPWD public land for the last two seasons and was unsuccessful. This property is one hour closer than any of the TPWD land and my current work situation allows me more time. I pray that everyone here has a great season and I look forward to contributing to this thread.

I would be interested to hear how y'all get your kill back to your truck. I guess I plan to pack it out in a pack I use for elk hunting. Any other ideas?

Goaticorn 08-26-2020 09:42 AM

Good luck and stay safe y'all!

I use a game cart that stays in the truck until I get one on the ground. It's a pain to walk in twice, but a lot better than solo dragging a deer out.

Welcome to TBH! And welcome to this thread. Lotta good folk on this sight. Lotta info too. But like most stuff ya hear, take with a grain of salt. Some don't have as good a skills communicate-n with the written word as in person. So keep it in mind when reading. We used to have regular get2gethers and an annual picnic . But the Rona has everthing on hold right now. It always helps to meet a person F2F so you can get a better idea of what they are really like and trying to say. :)

Be safe out there. And if you ever need any help on tracking or dragging or a cart, sometimes this is the best place to get immediate help. ;)

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I try to assume the best, especially when reading text. I look forward to a day when I can join y'all on a get-together. And, I'll be happy to help move someone else's kill if I am in the area.

Razorback01 08-26-2020 09:54 PM

How about a GTG in the open, Kimball, Steel Creek, Nolan/Lakeside ramp?

Texas Grown's posts need double salt, BS-73- so much salt you can't stand it. Some of us also boat in, closer than dragging to truck.

Or Hamm creek. Large covered shelter with big grills to cook on.

And playgrounds to get your exercise. [emoji51][emoji51]

Razorback01 08-27-2020 07:29 AM

Forgot about Hamms.

Texas Grown 08-27-2020 08:35 AM

And Chisholm Trail Park. And Nolan River Park. And Stiner area. And....ok. I'll stol.[emoji113][emoji16]

Question..

Is it legal to quarter and pack out your kill in the field and leave carcass on Corp land? I read through the rules and didn’t see this in there.

TP&W has defined rules for quartering in the field or camp that must be followed until it reaches it's final destination. Or processing facility. It also tells you what you can dispose of. As long as you follow those rules, your good to go.

On a side note for everyone: Just please don't leave any disposed of critter parts at a gate or parking area. It's unsightly for non hunters. And down right stinks. Same for using bathroom in the parking areas. Nothing worse than opening your door to get out and a big old pile someone left there with no paper. And yes there are people who do that.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

just to get everyone excited, a sample of ACE deer

https://www.facebook.com/texaswildou...8539948441339/

I tried to post just the picture but apparently they've made it to where the size you can post is smaller than a standard game camera picture size

Them "kansas" bucks sure do grow big.  ;) :D ;)b :D :D :D

Texas Grown 08-29-2020 05:58 PM

W lake is sitting at 3.54 feet below normal at the present. That's pretty good for this time of year compared to years past. :D

A lake is 1.06 feet below normal at the present.

And I've got 107F here at the house.

jnd1959 08-30-2020 09:42 AM

Yesterday I went outside to do a little yardwork. I lasted about 20 minutes. I've been driving with no ac for the last month and had gotten used to the heat. Not yesterday!

Dove season is upon us although I fear our season will be a repeat of prior years.

Texas Grown 08-30-2020 05:05 PM

I've been seeing some flying in the late afternoon.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Layne86 08-30-2020 05:09 PM

Good Luck to everyone

jnd1959 08-30-2020 06:15 PM

It's funny, the most dove I've seen was at the sporting clays course. We had to be careful not to accidentally shoot the real thing. It's a little hard when insinct takes over. Friday we almost had a bird fly into a clay pattern. Almost a two fer.

My Bro in Law is near lake front in a no hunting subdivision and the map shows hunting all around him. He and my Sister in Law are superb expert fisher folks. But they are not in to hunting. I get pics from them of some unreal bucks and lots of turkeys. Might need to be doing some persuasions and crafty manipulations. My secret spots are cheap. As I aint got any.

TexaCali 08-31-2020 01:20 PM

Was out hog hunting this last weekend and came across this guy. Too bad he didn’t make it to season. Would have been awesome!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3c624e5c30.jpg

Giant Chupacabra fish got another one. Surprised the skull was left. They usually chew on them for a while.

"What's there?" "There be dragons."

Yep! Them deer try to swim the river, and plunk, under they go! They are some mean aggressive fish. I've never heard of anybody being eaten by one. Course I imagine no one has survived to tell that they had been eaten or attacked.

AfghanVet 09-01-2020 08:58 AM

Nice find! I wonder if he got wounded last season?

Texas Grown 09-02-2020 06:27 AM

4 days of off-n-on rain. That aughtta fill some holes up a little.

Did anybody dove hunt yesterday?

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Lightning48 09-02-2020 07:01 AM

I got my neighbor into deer hunting, and I'm having him cut his teeth at Whitney, I'm pretty excited as we has some nice deer on camera.

I’m planning on doing some dove hunting Friday. Depends on how wet it is.
