Just curious. I know that bow hunters make bad shots on more than just wallhanger bucks.

Most of them cost money and they aren’t worth it to the them.

I’ve only used a tracking dog on does and think it’s probably more common where I hunt than for bucks (only because more does are shot than bucks.

I occasionally get calls for does but no one wants to pay my normal rate to recover a doe. On guided hunts we have to recover does for hunters all the time but in those situations I’m already at the ranch and I don’t charge the hunters for the dog.

It's all about the time & money vs the return of value...most folks just are not going to spend the coin for a doe or even a cull, but will likely borrow the money or sell a kidney if they needed good dogs to go find their trophy.

I should add that nearly all the calls I get are family and friends, and for bucks and does. Heck pigs too.

I didn’t know anyone shot does anymore. At least all I ever hear is “I’m not shooting a dang doe”. Course most folks I’m around anymore aren’t too management minded in east Texas and don’t shoot does.
