Why does a replacement stump jumper cost over $700+?

Needed a twelve foot mower fixed ASAP. If I’d had more time maybe a more reasonably priced stump jumper could’ve been sourced elsewhere. The original part was quite heavy. I couldn’t get over how much lighter the replacement version is. No way it’s worth over $700. It’s a Bush Hog brand mower.

I don't have any help for your question, but I have a question for you.

I'm a curious fellow and wondering. Why did you change your screen name from Worksalot...to Katsaregood...to MontagueMech?

    ...and what is a stumpjumper?

It's all making sense now. I was thinking they had similar posting styles to Worksalot..

Do you know what a stump jumper is?

Randy a stumpjumper is that big plate under a brush mower.

Mine don't jump stumps, likes to find them though

Think it serves more as a weight to help sling the blades?

No clue about the other question you had

Thanks, Brian. I ran a bush hog behind an 8N Forder for two summers mowing oil field leases but never a big unit.

I bet that 8N was like a Corvette compared to those steam tractors you used to run?

Where did you get this quote? Call around various dealers, in your area.

Stumpjumper is a plate that protects the shaft coming down from the gearbox on top.

At least it’s supposed to. Depends on the uh…aggressiveness of the operator.

That doesn't sound right at all. I've messed with several on my 10ft, 8ft and 6ft mowers and don't recall them being that expensive or even close. I would think between $100 - $200 easily. Mine are all pretty much the same concept with the main difference being the spline count.

What size do you need? And what is the current issue? Are the splines worn out? Usually the hub on the stump jumper will wear out before the shaft/post ever will. If that is the issue, SUPER easy to change them out yourself.
