If you hit a deer with your car

Pull over and kill it or call a game warden. I just saw a spike in the ditch, head up, unable to get up. Called the game warden and he said he was 2-3 hours out. Couldn't give me permission to shoot it, but more or less said he would do what was needed to put it out if its misery if he was me. I dispatched it.

I cant imagine someone hitting one and just continuing on down the road.

That would be the humane thing to do but someone might want to speak with you regarding this post. I'd say if you're doing this don't post it somewhere on social media.

The right thing isn't always the legal thing.

Yes, sir; and the legal thing isn't always the right thing.

I've hit more deer than your average person I bet. One even hit me one time. Ran right into the passenger side door and scared the crap out of me. Not one has died. Not right on the spot anyway. I just let them go and continue on down the road. If they died they died if not they didn't.

I asked the game warden about that. He said sheriff couldn't shoot it. Hands tied by paperwork.

You know what they say, when seconds count the law is minutes away. In the GW’s case, since there are so few of them, hours away. Do what you think is right.

I'm putting the poor animal out of his misery every time. In my mind the consequences don't out way doing whats morally right in my mind. Go ahead and write me a ticket for "dispatching suffering animal".
