      Nice hunt!

Am I weird to think a sandhill crane would make a cool full body mount?

I got invited to a sandhill crane hunt.
Whats the method to hunting them? What type of shot, distance, setup, etc?

                  Good skilling MrBull.

We use steel BB shot. If the guide is any good they should be close. Federal crane endorsement is required in Texas. We force everyone to use steel because we also get geese in at times. I have shot them from lay out blinds and also a frame blinds. Limit 3 per day in Texas.

Good stuff!! I used to pile them up around there. East side of town always held a lot of cranes.

Everybody always talks about how good of eating crane are, but I haven’t found that to be the case. We get a pile of them up here in the panhandle, and to me they’re not very good. Lean and flavorless. They’ve got to be doused in marinade or sauce to be edible lol

It’s dang sure no ribeye! But good compared to geese or ducks! We sliced the breasts thin and marinaded and wrapped in onions and peppers and rolled up in bacon and grilled and my favorite was to BBQ the thighs. If your just breading out the cranes your missing out.
