    Carlsbad Caverns

Made a quick trip over to Carlsbad Caverns yesterday. I haven't been there in 30yrs and remember very little. Didn't want to take all my camera stuff......and left the one lens I should have taken, the 50mm 1.8.....and a tripod. I really remember the light being better than it was. Here are a few that turned out ok.

You can see the "big pics" here:

The Caverns are really neat and a great opportunity to test your low-light photo skills. I will be better prepaired next time. I wanted to see the bat flight and get some pics but they don't allow photography without a permit(two week advance notice). We finished the tour and had over 2 hrs to wait. I will catch them next time.

I haven't been to Carlsbad since I was a kid. Great pictures! I wonder what the reasoning is in requiring a permit to photograph the bat flight.

The guy said that flash photos "bother" the bats and all the electronics(cameras and video) mess with their eco-location. They don't want them to leave the area because of people's interference.

I would have never thought of that. Thanks.

I kinda figured that a couple hundred cameras flashing would not be good for the bats and confirmed that on their website.

I would like to see 400,000 bats exiting that big hole in the ground.

Well 30 years ago your eye sight might have been better and the last 30 years have not been very good to you....

                Great pictures!!!!

Thanks for sharing these great pics. I'm looking forward to spending time in NM later this year. Guess you gave me another idea where to go.

Went through Longhorn Carverns up by Inks Lake last week. Not as spectacular as Carlsbad but a neat place to go if your in the area and some good history.
