    Crate Motors

Well kid has been wanting a truck for a while and may have done some horse trading for a 1993 Toyota T100 4x4. It’s runs but compression is shot in at least one hole- Figure best thing to do is put a “crate motor” in it and get him into something reliable. Any suggestions on a company? I’ve seen Jasper but know there are a lot of gearheads on here. Thanks

My son has a 98 t100 with the 3.4l v6. Not sure what was in the 93. When I was looking potentially at a replacement for it and a 4Runner I came across some places in Dallas that had some engines in warehouse from Japan. I think it was just off of Craigslist. The 4Runner deal fell thru and he just needed some intake work. He had his repairs done at import motors in belton. Swaps are pretty straightforward on those 3.4l.

Google Toyota long blocks and you’ll see all kinds, but if you can get one from Oreilys and they’ll put it in your truck do that.

They will put it in the bed of your truck.

JDM swap is the way to go but for the older motors they are getting harder to come by. I bought one from japan with 70k on the motor for my 3.4 Toyota 5vz engine. Motors should be about 1200 with about 1k for the engine swap. I bought new gaskets, timing belt, water pump, filters, etc while the motor was out and had the mechanic swap them to the new motor. I think I paid 2500 total for a complete swap on mine in 2019.

My first calls would be to local machine shops to rebuild. If that can pan out with good recommendations and time frame I’d go that route. If that doesn’t work, I’d get on Toyota forums and find their recommendation for a crate motor. I’ve had bad and good luck with both crates and engine builders.

jasper has been around for a long time; i've never had the need for them, but they seem reputable.

Jdm was the company I was thinking of. Know way I’d let jasper screw up a Toyota engine. 93 had a 3.0 but that should be a fairly easy swap to a 3.4. Toyota forums have it mapped out pretty well.

Look at gearheadengines on my chevy 454 they were the best deal. They sell all kinds of replacement engines

I’m having a Jasper installed in my 08 mega cab, hopefully ready Monday.

I would go with one of these...may need some very slight mods for fit.
