    Cpap vs Bipap?

For those that have switched from a cpap to a bipap machine, is there a big difference? My sleep doctor had me do another sleep study after I told him that I wasn’t seeing any benefits from the cpap he had me using. The study showed that I did better on a bipap machine. Well I don’t notice any difference in how the machine works and it doesn’t seem to make my sleep any better. I’m bound and determined to make this work for me and I will be going back to the provider to see what options I have but I just was wondering what y’all’s experiences were.
I’ve got moderate to severe sleep apnea, at least that’s what the study said. This all started trying to get my AFib under control.

Does your machine have a wireless function so it can record data? That may help the doctor help you.

It has a SD card that I have to turn in every 30 days.

There's also an Auto PAP Machine.
            Here's a bunch of questions. I've been using a Bi-Pap since 2006 or 2006.

Here's somethings I've learned ove the years. I hope you start sleeping better.

My last study lasted 7.75 hours I "slept" 4½ minutes. After the Dr reviewed my results they increased my both pressures a little bit.

Which machine do you have? I have a Auto Pap machine, it's setup for Bi Pap.

Which style of mask are you using?
I use a nasal mask. I tried a full face mask. Couldn't exhale?

Do you use a chin strap to keep your mouth closed?

Do you wake up gasping for air, or with chest pain? That might be an indicator you're holding your breath or your nose is stoped up not letting you breath through it. Maybe try a Breath Right. I've tried the off brands but i keep coming back to the name brand.

Is your nose & mouth dry in the am? Maybe your chin strap is not keeping your mouth closed and the pressure is escaping out your mouth. Do you use a humidifier on your machine? I do in the winter but not in the summer months.

I have the ResMed, AirCurve 10, VAUTO.

I’m using a full face. I tried an under the nose type but it wouldn’t seal with my goatee. I can get the full face to seal as long as I strap it pretty tight to my face.

No and yes, I’m a mouth breather. I can’t imagine putting up with a chin strap but I’d be willing to try it and use the nose pillow type. I had a hard time getting used to the mask but it’s not bad now.

I don’t wake up gasping or have chest pains. I didn’t even know I had any issues until I woke up in ICU after having a severe AFib attack and a doctor observing me and asking me if I knew I had sleep apnea. I had no idea. So that started me down to the path of getting on the bipap.

Yes, I have terrible dry mouth in the morning. I’ve been trying different settings on my machine but haven’t found any that will eliminate it.

I did a TBH search and got some really good insight from the green screen about getting used to it and staying with it. It’s taken awhile to get used to it and I’m starting to sleep mostly through the night. I think I’m only waking up now when get tangled up in the hose or I end up laying on it until it starts biting into my skin.

The only difference I’m seeing between the two machines is that the bipap seems to blow a little harder than the cpap. So far I’m not seeing any difference in my sleep from before I started using these machines. I still wake up drug out and tired and no energy during the day. But I’m not giving up. I’ll get this figured out and hopefully some day I’ll get the kind of rest that most of y’all experience.

I didn't care for the under the nose one either.

I hope the Dr gets you lined out soon. I don't miss waking up feeling more tireder than when I went to bed.

I had a Beard for a while. When my moustache started getting over @ 1" my mask leaks. I keep it short now. Another thing I've noticed when my hair gets long my chin strap send to slip off more.

I got hurt at work, that's how mine was found. Traumatic Brain Injury. I spent 1 night in the hospital. My rehab Dr asked me if I knew If I stopped breathing while Inwas asleep. I didn't. He ordered me a sleep study. After I got used to the machine i realized that I've probably had it most of my life. Even when I was young, fit and skinny.

Have you explored other possible causes for your lethargy and malaise? If your doctor hadn’t observed your sleep, my first thought would have been that you have a hormone imbalance. Perhaps your poor sleep is due to more than one thing.

You might consider having your hormones tested and perhaps doing a 24-hour circadian hormone test. A shot in the dark, i know, but it seems strange that your breathing appliances haven’t helped you feel better.

I have used a CPAP for years and it took several years to get to where I could use it. Exhaling against pressure was a problem. I have one now that has a relief valve for exhaling and it works ok. My buddy never could use a CPAP and has a BiPAP that he says allows him to sleep like he never has before. I understand that the BiPAP has 2 pressure settings, one for inhaling and another for exhaling, you just have to get the timing right and the pressures set right.

I’ve been on a bipap for many, many years. I can’t sleep without it unless I’m sitting in a recliner, and I took to it the first night like a duck to water.

I was recently sent to the ENT by my wife, started snoring and waking her up. Sleep study was simply a clip on a finger. Nothing attached to my face. I had on average 13 events an hour, so mild. More than 15 is moderate. I was diagnosed with SA and given a cpap. I have to wear it a minimum of 4 hours per night. I also have to turn in an SD card every 30 days for 3 months. Also, I can't buy it outright. I have to rent to own it for 9 months. Payments are only 12 bucks, but it's because the insurance companies want to make sure you're using it. Apparently getting the machine and then reselling it immediatley is a huge problem.

Not too much info on a bipap. GLW everything.

                              That doesn't sound safe..

I sleep like a baby with my AirSense 10. CPAP with APAP technology. First 10-11 years was the CPAP and the doctor suggested the AirSense10 when I needed a new unit.. It took some time to get used to after having constant heavy air flow but I got used to it and sleep like a baby like I did with the CPAP. I'm on year 6 with this new technology. Its nice having a lighter pressure on the exhale.
