Funny because usps is the ones that your supposed to ship long guns with. Unless you just went to a shipping store if it’s a privately owned store ups or otherwise they won’t ship stuff like that, go to the post office with it already boxed up otherwise go to a ups hub fedex is dumb

Tell the person behind the counter to read their own rules and regulations
f. Air guns that do not fall within the definition of firearm under 12.1.1a are mailable. A shipment containing an air gun with a muzzle velocity of 400 or more feet per second (fps) must include an Adult Signature service under 503.8.0. Mailers must additionally comply with all applicable state and local regulations.
You don't have to inform them it's a pellet gun, just request proof of delivery and check off.
Adult Signature Services (503.8.0)
Adult Signature service provides a method for customers to obtain a signature at delivery from an adult recipient who is 21 years of age or older.
Available for commercial and online customers who send via: Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail Parcels, First-Class Package Service — Commercial and Parcel Select (including Parcel Select Lightweight).
Return receipt (hardcopy PS Form 3811) may be used with Adult Signature shipments paid for as Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail. Adult Signature service may also be combined with: Insured Mail and Hold For Pickup (only for commercial Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Parcel Select Ground, and Parcel Select Lightweight pieces).
Two options available:
Adult Signature Required—requires the signature of someone who is 21 years of age or older at the recipient‘s address.
Adult Signature Restricted Delivery—requires the signature of a specific addressee (or authorized agent), who must be 21 years of age or older.

That’s why you print a label at home, then just drop it off, so you don’t have to deal with the idiots at the the counter. Most of them don’t even know their own rules. As long as it’s not a liquid or flammable, it’s none of their business what you’re shipping. I’ve shipped quite a few firearms and never had any issue. I generally hate USPS, but that’s who I usually use when shipping long guns. I shipped a rifle action and barrel blank last week. Printed the label and boxed it up at my office, drove to the post office, handed it to the employee, and walked out.
A pellet gun is not even a firearm, so it’s no different than shipping a box of rocks.
