    6 mm AARC

Title should have read 6 mm Arc

Does anyone have any real deer hunting experience with it? Bought my wife the Savage 110 Seitchback for Christmas. She had a shoulder surgery a couple years ago and her 270 is a bit to much on recoil now.

I did a little research on it and saw that it was barreled with a 1-7.5 twist for the heavier 24 cal bullets. It’s not a speed demon but Carrie’s good velocity and energy out to 300 yards, has very little recoil and comes threaded for a can. From what I have read and seen they are pretty accurate out of the box and LOP is adjustable.

Other than coyotes has anyone used this as their primary deer rifle?

    Not interested in 243.

Guess we’ll have to do some real life testing on some hogs and Javelina.

I listen to the TPH pod cast and Wade Chandler is on it. Which does all the RD work for Ally munitions and he has a lot of good things to say about it. had me interested originally. But think Im going with a 6.5 Grendel.

Yup, pretty much a necked down Grendel in 6mm built for AR platform.

If it wasn’t so close to the Grendel or 6.8, I’d probably get one just because.

        No real world experience.

I also looked into the 6.5 Grendel and 6.8. But couldn’t pass up the price of the switchback, and all the good reviews. Another reason was during the ammo shortage Everyone around here had this stuff on the shelf’s. At the time I was really frustrated and had never heard of the round. Still see a lot of it at Academy. Just got two boxes yesterday and they had about 10-15 more on the shelf. Don’t know if it’s just not that popular or maybe over rated. Looking at the ballistics it’s not that bad.

I’ve only killed a hog and a couple coyotes with one, but we’ve had one in our group quite a few nights when thermal hunting. They’ve killed well, and I wouldn’t have any reservations using one. One thing to keep in mind vs the 6.5 Grendel. The 6 will retain better velocity at distance giving more reliable expansion CS the heavier and less BC 123 6.5 pills out there. Even if it offers no energy advantage. Personally I would handload for it, and run 90 a ELDX out of it for the speed as I wouldn’t kill with it beyond 350-400 anyways.

I watched a buddy of mine shoot a pig and doe with his opening weekend. It blew a mighty little hole in both critters but both were DRT. I’d say it’s more than enough to get the job done. I shoot a Grendel which is nearly identical and it has let me down yet. I would say within 300 I wouldn't hesitate

I’ve got thermal unit in 6mm arc and Ive killed a good amount of hogs with it. It does about as well as the Grendel at night inside 100yds great success but no deer with it so far.

It shines in a gas gun. Not a bolt gun.

Am I understand it right that you got a bolt gun chambered in it already?

Yes. Not a fan of ARs. They feel awkward and loose to me. My wife definitely doesn’t like the feel of them either. I was under the impression that the performance out of a bolt gun in this cartridge would be better. I know it can be loaded to higher pressures than a gas gun but I’m kinda hoping it would shoot factory ammo good. Although I probably wouldn’t mind trying some 95 grain Hammers through it.
