    High Fence Small Acerage ?

Got a friend tossing the idea around of high fencing his place. Less than 75 acres
Not for breeding operations but for recreational hunting only. Still debating on axis or WT

I’m no expert on the subject but curious if those that know more on proper management is this doable in a practical approach?

Fence cost alone will push up there on cost
Introducing initial genetics will cost some dime
    Supplemental feed program
    Controlling numbers
How’s does the genetics get impacted 3-5+ years out on a place this size?
You have to constantly reintroduce genetics every so often?

Anyone have experience or knowledge on small acre high fence ?

I grew up beside a place that was about 300-350 acres that eventually was high fenced. Not sure if it lasted on productive WT as with time never saw deer. I know it changed ownership so maybe new owner killed out existing herd
I wondered even on 300 or so acres how difficult it might be but even smaller what’s the experts say?

that small i'd consider it a hobby hunting farm... depending on what he wants to do, he may just buy bucks of the species and let em grow... harvest what you want having does , you would want ot re introduce new bucks after a couple of years most small places I have seen like that eventually wind up having to feed 100% as its overgrazed and grass etc wont grow fast enough

My opinion only. It would almost have to be a commercial operation or ran as such to sustain it. Too many animals and inbreeding would be the result if you didn’t put and take. Again, that’s just my opinion based on talking to a couple different guys that had high fence operations.

I don't know anything about the logistics of it, but I have a buddy who grows deer on 50 acres that he sells to ranches. We drive around in a sxs out there and you can literally shoot them with pistols if you wanted to. There's no such thing as recreational hunting on a 75 acre high fence, except for maybe squirrels. You're simply placing animals out there and harvesting. I guess you could bring one animal in at a time and it might take a couple of hours to find it if you walk really slow. That said, I see enough guys on here that go deer shopping at these guaranteed kill places that I'm sure some people would get pretty pumped about "hunting" on such a small place. I know there are a lot of folks with different views about high fences, but at a point it becomes too small to even be sporting.

Definitely wouldnt be much "hunting" involved...but if he likes "shooting" then go for it!

This was my initial thought to get around inbreeding. Just bring in bucks only and let them grow.

We have 150 under HF at the house and love it. Just a fun hobby make a little money here and there spend alot of money all year long! Lol have the kids out family friends ect to come kill their first deer get some good meat to eat and just enjoy ourselves. We do some trapping every few years to remove some numbers and then bring in some new blood as well. Its been fun and would do it over again. Been an awesome place to train my blood dogs as well.

There would be no such thing as a hunt on that property
There would be no thrill to kill on that property
It would be constant money flow feeding and buying different dna
                    All in all, pretty ridiculous

If he wants to have enough animals to breed and grow to maturity, he will need to plan on a large ongoing feed bill. And also be prepared for the place to resemble the surface of the moon from being grazed to the dirt.

I would stay away from whitetails with the regulations, but would look at exotics. That market is going to continue to be hot and grow.

I would think that 75 acres is way too small to sustain any wild animal. Whitetail tend to range about 2 square miles. Exotics even more.

It's plenty of room for some wt or exotics just don't let your numbers get out of hand then give them some decent feed

Maybe not for you but your opinion doesn't speak fo4 others. Have seen plenty of joy and happiness from kids and season3d hunters alike taking an animal from our place. We had an axis bull we wanted to call took is months to get him. We were bow hunting but it wasn't like go throw some feed and there he is. Not saying there aren't some easy hunts or its like hunting some public land but not like shooting fish in a barrel either.

Got to love people saying how ridiculous it is for others to do as they please with their land and having fun doing it.
