Melanistic or not?

I think you meant piebald?? Looks possible but not a good pic. Melanistic is a dark brown/black.

You're right. I switched the terms.

I would think its a camera aberration or shadows except the legs have white spots too.

He has his hair bristled at the other buck and the way the light hits him it makes it look like he is light colored.

Hard to tell from the picture but he could be a piebald, have a bad case of road rash, or have mange.
