LEO opinions on catalytic converter theft deterrent

    The cheap options.

Paint, etching, both or is it a waste of time?

When yall nail them, are you finding CC's spraypainted & etched?

DL number is probably a good idea really.

One of the guys in my unit was just on a large raid of some. I don't think he mentioned anything about any ID numbers on something like 400 of them

Not much you can do. All bought and sold on the down low now.

Tag...I’m thinking of getting the plates or cut proof wrap. Just haven’t looked into it.

Thats what I was looking for.

The deterrent seems to work. Thanks.

The plates seem to be the best option

My Tacoma is not “jacked up”, but is high enough to easily slide under. I haven’t had a theft, nor installed any theft protection, but I’m a little concerned.

I’d bet if a thief rolled under a truck and saw a cat with spray paint and numbers on it he’d giggle and keep on cutting. Those guys don’t care and what good is getting the cat back after you’ve already had to buy a new one to get the truck operational again? Need a spare? LOL I’d be looking for ways to keep them from removing it in the first place,,, build a shield out of some AR 500 plate, bet that will slow them down…

So quit driving trucks and vans in general? In Texas? Every truck-chassis vehicle on the road is easy to get under.

I had a shield put on mine at Toyota. Also got a 15% veterans discount. Additionally, I try to park in the most visible spot I can find. If that means I drive around for 10 minutes, or wait 10 minutes , so be it.
The wife got one of hers stolen at Methodist hospital in the parking garage. That cost us $500.00 and two weeks before we could get a rental car. And it took em two weeks to get a converter.

Weld chain to them then to undercarriage

I had a thread about my Tundra a few weeks back when I got hit. The cost it $5300 (they did other damage cutting them off) and a 6 month wait.

I just ordered these to install when I get my truck back. Good reviews on a Tundra forum and they have front and back plates and security bolts.

Another TBHer texted me the other day to ask where I got the straight pipe welded on. He was in Dallas from Houston on business and got his cut off his Tundra at dinner.

I painted mine hi vis orange. I haven't seen a picture of any of the bust with a painted cat in the pile. I'm not LE though
