I had two Fallow bucks show up to the feeder in April and they quickly became addicted to the protein. Never had Fallow on the game cam so became obsessed with watching them grow.
As I researched the species I found that once they go hard horned you only have days before they disappear and go into rut. The Chocolate one in the group grew to the largest and I wanted him bad. Addiction might be a fitting word here. He went hard horned last week when I was out of state on business. Tried for him Sunday morning but nothing. Seemed every time we went out he wouldn’t show. Made me think he was bedding close and getting spooked when we went to stand. I got the the box blind this morning at 5:40 am. Had food and plenty water to last the entire day. Saw a ton of whitetail all day and stripped down to a pair of shorts and a t-shirt to make it through the heat of the day. At 6:45 pm he stepped out. I was shooting my custom XP-100 in .45-70 Govt and sent a 300 grain solid soaring through his heart. He went 30 yards and lights out. My coolest and best trophy to date and it only took me 13 hours in a box blind never opening the door to get him. One heck of a free range Fallow.
