Staining a fence through a fence

I'm about to stain my fence. It's over due. Both the neighbors that butt up to my yard have chain link fences that are on the outside of my wooden fence. If I spray through the chain link, will the stain wash or wear off the chain link fences? Any advice is appreciated.

Some of it will wear off but most will stay on, how close is the chain link to your fence. Can you get a roller between them? Otherwise I hope you have cool neighbors because they are going to get stain on their fence.

It's close. Not sure about a roller.

Maybe a sheet of plywood between them and move it down as you stain?

Are you trying to stain the backside of your fence or just worried about the stain going through the spaces between boards onto their fence?

Staining the neighbor's side. Their fence is chain link.

terry cloth towels work well to wipe off stain from their side of the fence if you're going to spray thru it. Doesn't take too long either, just don't let stain sit on chain link too long before wiping down.

Perhaps I am puzzled. How would he accomplish anything other than having a piece of plywood getting stained?:

I think he's not thinking that I'm doing both sides
