Finally was able to shoot my new nomad30 yesterday. Last night when I was cleaning everything up I noticed a little notched out spot looking down it. Is this correct?

Yes it supposed to be that way. That has what is called a K baffle. All manufactures clip the K baffles. You will not usually have it with a monobaffle can. -
