    Help w/ heel pain...

Over the past months, I have been experiencing increasingly intense heel pain after running. I typically run 3-5 days a week, nothing crazy, usually around 2-2.5 miles. It began with some tenderness in my heel and has now progressed to the point that after running, I limp around for a day and a half due to pain. I finally broke down and went to Airrosti since I get like 25 treatments at no cost every year through my health insurance. She diagnosed it as plantar fasciitis which is no surprise. I'm down for three more treatments over the next couple weeks. No running for 2-3 weeks, ice once a day, and they sent me home with exercises/stretches to do twice a day. I'm looking for any personal experience ya'll might have had getting this condition under control. I hate to be side lined, but I've got to get this thing healthy. Thanks in advance.

    It sucks for sure.

Inserts are what really helped me the most.

The brace to use at night is also something that helped as well, but not as much as the inserts.

What treatments are they doing? Never heard of this, other than a cortisone shot treatment.

That, and if you wear flip flops, crocs, slides, or anything without arch support, stop immediately. Throw them in the trash now.

I’ve dealt with foot pain and mild bouts of plantar fasciitis for a while. I’ve had to start buying quality tennis shoes with good arch support to keep it at bay.

As far as treatments go, you can google Airrosti, but in a nutshell they are chiropractors who are trained and specialize in soft tissue injury treatment. They have their own proprietary training and techniques; I believe the concept was born out of the cross-fit craze to keep those athletes healthy. Can you advise on the inserts that you used? I have been told inserts help, but I have never bought anything other than over the shelf stuff from Academy.

As mentioned already changing shoes and using inserts fixed me right up. But I don’t run.

That's actually why I didn't go straight to an ortho doc, I know that's what they would tell me!

I start PT next week with the Iron Man Sports Medicine clinic. 2x week for 6 weeks Already saw the doctor and thats what he rxd. They did xrays and found no issues but I have a gait problem after a leg injury causing achilles tendonitis. I can plyo box, ruck, walk, calisthenics and squats all day but if I run within half a mile that tendon pulls tight and my calves wont flex. Very painful

What helped me out was compression sock my left foot with quality shoes/ work boots, before going to bed I would get iced water bottles and roll my foot over it while applying pressure to it (it will hurt) my last paid was for about a year had to end up going to the dr and got steroids injected I was to the point were I was walking and my knee would give out due to the pain of constantly walking and climbing for 12 hr shifts. Don’t let it get to the point of having the pain move from that area it can also cause a bone spur

Man, that sounds like some snake oil to me, hopefully it helps.

As for inserts, I get them from the foot doc. Powerstep ProTech. The Dr office was cheaper than anything I found online, $30. I have a mix of half inserts and full.

I didn’t want to cheap out either with something similar, as I knew these worked for me. Wasn’t worth it with the pain I was dealing with to try to save a buck or two.

One thing that did change, my shoe size has gone up a full size since using inserts. In the end, anything to keep from having PF pain.

Both heels or just 1? Have you had an x-ray to rule out heel spurs? Plantar faciitis is the most likely culprit, but I sure wouldn't rule out a spur esp. if you are having unilateral symptoms. Check out some videos on Graston techniques and give it a go. Also not sure how you apply the ice, but I'd suggest doing ab ice massage with biofreeze. Fill a few paper dixie cups about 2/3's full of water and freeze them. Tear off the top section of the cup until you have about 1/2" of ice showing. The bottom of the cup will be your handle. As the ice melts you can tear aware more paper to expose the ice for the massage. The structures of the foot are all fairly shallow and a 7 min ice massage will get the cold where it needs to be. Hope this helps!

                          Heel cups worked for me.

The only thing that helped me was surgery. Had it for 2 years and tried all kinds of different things. After surgery I was working within 5 weeks. Been 5 years now and no issues.

I limped around for 3 years with it until an orthopedic surgeon friend gave me some stretching exercises to do. It took about 10 months, but I was able to do a 10 mile ruck march after doing the exercises.
