    ISO Dove Hunting Near Lubbock

I’m going into my sophomore year of college at Texas Tech studying for an Agribusiness degree and I am looking for a dove, and if i’m lucky a duck/goose lease. I’m not looking to break the bank, but can put in the work to equalize the cost. Please let me know if you have any leads for me, thank you.

        About 10 years to late...

Went to tech 07-12 and all you had to do was hit a back road, knock on a farmers door or catch him on the tractor, and ensure him you wouldn't shoot his pheasant and you could hunt all over. Now there are so many guides it's impossible.

I'd suggest you pick some areas an hour or so away and go driving/scouting. There are some bighead sunflower fields west/southwest of lubbock as well as north/northwest. Be ready to put some miles on your truck, I routinely drove to plainview to get away from all of the guides but it is my understanding they are up there now as well. There are spots still to be had you just need to get off the beaten path and be able to persuade a farmer that you're a good kid looking to shoot some birds.

Thank you for the info, that’s pretty much what I figured.

Couple of public spots north of Lockney, other than that probably just have to get lucky knocking on doors with so much leased up by outfitters. Maybe you’ll find some buddies with connections at school.

My son moves into dorms on the 19th of this month. PM me your number and I will get it to him. If ya'll get along there are tons at my ranch and he's a hunter. The ranch is about 2 hours from lubbock.

My cousin-in-law is part owner of Fowl Plains Outfitters there. I can ask him if you could trade some labor for hunting. You ever guide?

Based on gas prices, mine as well pay $100 for the day hunt with the guides. Gunna spend it running all over the place trying to find birds and a place to hunt

Agreed but I enjoyed the time in the truck. Saw a lot of things people will never see in their lifetime. Let alone all of the good folks I shook hands with, I've got farmer's I could call today ten years later and they would know exactly who I am.

Tag for later. I'll keep you in mind if birds show on our place. No water in the pit this year so we'll see what the weather does.

I would offer to take you with us for geese but I do not have one farmer with any grain. I have access to over 100000 acres and nothing got planted in grain this year. No sense burning diesel to plant when it won’t come up.

Maybe check around with some of your agribusiness profs, they may know someone.

A few guys in our church here have had fun using the public land maps. Water had been iffy though through the year. I'll check with them tomorrow
