Need TBH brain trust real quick

Some may have read my son was in a wreck. Insurance totaled his car.

Long story short he needs to find a 1999 (or close) Toyota Camry 4 cyl. for sale or that has sold with a salvaged title to use as a comp. Sons car was salvaged but repaired.

Insurance came up with 2. One was in El Paso for $2,500 the other was more but average was around $4,000. The $2,500 comp didn't have pictures or a VIN # or anything so I'm guessing it was wrecked and never repaired.

All I can find is auctions for cars with salvaged titles.

If anyone can find anything please post ASAP.

One in Mississippi with 185k miles for $4k

There are 52 '99 Camrys for sale on Copart.

I think you can look at past sales.

The only BIN is $950. The others are auctions.

I can't figure out how to look at past auctions. It may have been another salvage vehicle website that has that feature.

Thanks, he used the Mississippi one. Hope they accept it.

I started on that site but couldn't figure past sales prices. And being an auction wasn't sure how to use it.

I've never been in this situation. Makes my head hurt as the insurance has an out no matter what we do. Now if I had access to prices that actually sold but those auctions go cheap/er so that wouldn't help. Don't have access to dealership sales prices and salvaged ones are so few to none anyway.

My parents just sold my grandmother's 2002 Camery with like 40k-50k miles for $8,000. Don't know if that helps. Or what documents I could even get to prove that.

re read your post... so the car had a salvage title ? I think that does make a difference.

Yep. He bought before the car craziness started. Car was repaired and couldn't even tell it was salvaged. But now it's biting him in the rear.

I'll update when they reply with new comps.

Now the search is on to get him in a ride. Seems impossible. He may try to buy it back from insurance and rig it to work good enough for now. He's supposed to be coming back to Texas in about 18 days so not sure what he will do.

I misread the part about salvaged as well. I thought you meant they were going to salvage it now. My bad

Gets better and better each day. Lie after lie after lie. And he still has not had one single phone call from USAA even though they tell him every day they will call him back.

So, without going into a three page thread on the BS, he finally got them to admit the $2,500 comp was a bad one and they threw it out. Replaced it with a real one that was over $1,000 more.

Then they re-work the numbers and the bottom line didn't change. They raised the total by $450 but also raised the salvaged buy back about the same amount.

So he says screw it just wanting to give up and take the money then fix his car... Then he gets a hold on..... They used the wrong zip code and now lower the payout another $800

He's filing reports with Utah Insurance board and the BBB this evening. It's simply insane how they can get away with so much bull crap.

Well 2 months later and they send my son $4,500 ish dollars. A week later someone else from USAA calls and says they can't proceed and give him money until he gives them his car LOL Paperwork clearly states owner retained.

Then 2 days later they e-mail him another offer trying to pay him again. That place is all screwed up.

As far as my son is concerned it's case closed.

Check in hand and paperwork states it’s retained. Cash that check and make copies of the papers and place in a safe [emoji23]
