    Quality Zebco reels

So I just wanted to give a little review on a zebco reel. I didn’t even know they make a better reel than those found in a store. I was looking for a decent reel for my wife’s bday she could use on an up coming fishing trip. Trout will be the main fish we are after with this reel. Anyway I happened to look at the zebco site and found this reel for I think $60. It is really well made. Think stainless body and real stainless bearings. Nothing feels cheap on this thing.
So if this type reel fits you or a family member this thing is much better than an average zebco .

    Good to know.
Back in the the day(70's-80's)the Zebco "ONE" was a very good reel..
The old "33's" were decent too.

Another good Zebco reel is the Bullet. It has the backbone to handle big fish as well

These are some solid spincast reels. I have the Bullets and the Deltas on hand for guest to use (and wife).

Good to see this. I will have to take a look at these since my wife only like the "push-button " reals. She has been using the 733s, I don't think they even make them anymore.

            How's the drag?

Quality spin casters are hard to find. Years ago we used Abu 170s for throwing light lures under the lights and they were pretty good little reels. That was long before the baitcasters we have now that will handle really light stuff well. Back then Abu 5000 and 5500s were the gold standard and you couldn't throw light speck rigs into the wind with them very well. So we kept some 170's for that sort of thing. I'd love to find a quality spincaster for kids to use on my boat that will hold up to redfish, trout and life in saltwater.

Just holding it it seems pretty good but that comes from a man who probably doesn’t know what a good drag is actually supposed to be. I think this reel is much to small for redfish or drum but trout it should be fine. It really does feel solid. The bullet mentioned above is probably a better reel for your purpose and I believe they have some better reels on the site for bigger fish as well

The bigger size of those Deltas holds 85 yards of 10# test. That is good enough for most slot reds so long as the drag is good.

Glen, growing up, my dad bought me a 170 (RED) one and there’s no telling how many fish that sucker caught!! Some good memories flooded back… Thanks!

I’m 47 and got a Zebco 33 for my 10th birthday from my grandpa. Have owned all sorts high end stuff since then but still have that 33. Used it earlier this year and caught 10-12 bass in a pond on a road runner from 1-3 lbs. Nice trip down memory lane. I like the Zebco products.

808 for catfish, choupique, and gaspa goux. The real deal 33 with all stainless internals back in the day

Glenn I can’t speak for the reel posted but I can attest to the drag on the Bullet. It can handle some big fish. Friends wife caught a 11.4 bass on hers and it handle it fine.

Is it impossible to build a reel worth a flip, using the Zebco design?
I'm not saying the OPs reel is crap, but it ain't no Metanium.
Why aren't there high end reels using this design?
It such a simple concept and works so well...

My wife caught this 10.51 on a zebco 33 with line that was so old it would hardly cast. Caught it on Dd22 crankbait. It was her first time to go fishing and it was her second cast. The luckiest part of the whole thing is when it ran past the boat at about 50mph, I stuck the net in the water as far as I could and it ran right into it. Almost took the dang net out of my hand. At the time She had not idea of how lucky that catch was.Click image for larger version
